Bristling Energy showing an inset of the area of interest

The above image is a black and white version of the color image from the previous page. To make things easier to see I am going to magnify the area in the black rectangle in the image below. The letters correspond to features where minibrots might be located. Scroll down so you can see the image below and take a moment to guess which letters have minibrots and which don't. The results are shown in the text below the next image.

There are an infinite number of minibrots in the above image and some infinite zoom areas as well. Take a look first at 5A (Five Arms). You can zoom into the center of this to infinity and you won't find a minibrot. Another area that has no minibrot is S (Spiral). As you zoom in the two arms rotate around the screen but never get to anything.

So, where are the areas that have minibrots? If you often read the FractInt Mail List you may have seen some of Jim Muth's suggestions on how to find minibrots. One way he suggests is to look for two way symmetry. The area at A has two way symmetry and sure enough has a minibrot if you zoom deep enough. You can also see lots of other areas that look like A but smaller. These smaller versions of A all have minibrots. The little A's are also along the spiral path as pointed to by MS (Minibrot on Spiral). B is another minibrot on spiral but is way way too small to see at this zoom so you really couldn't tell with B. I just wanted to point out B since we are going to explore deep zooms of A and B on page 3 and compare them with the original image.
